Description:

Anti-Piracy training aims to build awareness and understanding of the threat of Piracy and to help seafarers react and cope with pirate attacks.
The courses can be tailored to provide training for crew, officers and shore side management personnel taking into account their differing levels of responsibility.

Objectives:

Trainees who successfully complete the Principles of Counter Piracy shall gain a general awareness and understanding of piracy and will be able to undertake counter piracy functions onboard.

Trainees who successfully complete the Security Management Course shall be able to plan and implement a counter piracy strategy onboard or for a managed fleet of ships.

Target Group:

Ship crew and shore side management personnel involved in the shipping industry.

Learning Outcome:

Principles of Counter Piracy

At the end of the course the successful participant shall have gained a heightened level of awareness on piracy and be able to:

• Understand the piracy threat;
• Understand the principles of counter piracy activities and layered protection;
• How to conduct the physical preparation of the vessel;
• Carry out drills and training;
• Respond to attempted attacks;
• Understand the actions taken if pirates take over the ship.

Security Management Course

• Ensure the development, of a counter piracy plan and thereafter the implementation and management of that plan;
• Ensure the counter piracy plan is modified, as appropriate, to correct deficiencies and satisfy the security requirements of the individual ship(s);
• Ensure that ship counter piracy plan assessments are carried out;
• Enhance security awareness and vigilance amongst officers and crew;
• Ensure adequate training for personnel responsible for counter piracy duties onboard the ship;
• Plan and conduct counter piracy drills for all crew;
• Ensure effective communication and co-operation between the ship, management and other relevant agencies on shore and at sea;
• Ensure consistency between security requirements and safety requirements;
• Have an understanding of private security companies and how to make best use of the provision of their service;
• Firearms management and legal considerations.

Course Delivery

The course is delivered in an instructor-led environment or onboard ships through a combination of theoretical and practical training.

Certification:
