Deck Officer Competency Assurance Program
Description:
The program provides the candidates with a blend of learning events comprising of instructor-led training, computer-based learning and practical exercises both ashore and onboard.
Objectives:
Candidates who successfully complete this program shall be able to:
- maintain a safe navigational watch
- plan a passage in accordance with industry best practices
- effectively respond to emergencies
- maintain a safe watch in port
- understand the principles and practice of cargo operations
- work effectively as part of a team
- demonstrate an understanding of ship stability and construction
Program outline:
- screening
- 16 weeks training at IDESS Maritime Centre (Subic) Inc.
- 6 to 12 months onboard training
- completion of BSMT, PRC license and CoC (if required)
- final assessment at IDESS
Entry Standards:
This program is open to the following:
- licensed deck officers with no experience as OIC-NW
or BSMT graduates with no license
or Associates or Undergraduates in Marine Transportation with no or insufficient sea service
- and have successfully completed the IDESS screening process
- and are medically fit for sea service
Duration:
10 to 20 months depending on the entry level
Certification:
A certificate of successful completion of the IDESS Deck Officer Competency Assurance Program shall be issued to those candidates who successfully complete the program and meet the assessment criteria.
