Powerboat Coxswain
Description:
The course provides a blend of theoretical instruction and practical exercises in various environmental conditions designed to prepare the participant to safely take charge of a powerboat in coastal waters.

- Securing to a buoy
- Anchoring
- Leaving and coming alongside
- Man overboard
- Towing and being towed
- Night operations
- Bad weather operation
- Emergency procedures
- Communications
- Ropework
- Safety equipment and safety of the crew
- Collision avoidance rules
- IALA Buoyage
- Local laws and regulations
- Availability and interpretation of weather information
- Use of charts, and nautical publications including tide tables
- Use of compass for steering and position fixing
- Planning a coastal passage
Entry Standards:
This course is open to any person who may be in charge of a powerboat.
Minimum number of participants is three (3) and the maximum is twelve (12).
Duration: 5 days (40hrs)
Certification:
A certificate of successful completion shall be issued to those participants who successfully complete the course and meet the assessment criteria.
