Tropical Helicopter Underwater Escape Training With Emergency Breathing System Course

Description:

The course is designed for personnel who must travel to offshore installations or ships by helicopter and who may be using an emergency breathing system in cold waters.

Objectives:

Trainees who successfully complete the course will be able to demonstrate escaping from a helicopter simulator under various types of emergencies both with and without the use of an emergency breathing system.

Course Outline:

  • Procedures at the heliport
  • Helicopter safety equipment
  • Types of helicopters
  • Dangers in connection with the use of helicopters
  • Safety measures taken for helicopters
  • Types of emergencies
  • Emergency landing hazards
  • Preparation prior to an emergency landing
  • Emergency landing on land
  • Surface landings
  • Underwater Escape
  • Practical underwater escape training including:
    • Dry and wet escape exercises
    • Use of emergency exits
    • Use of helicopter liferaft and lifejackets
    • Use of helicopter rescue strop
    • Use of the Air Pocket Plus emergency breathing system

Entry Standards:

Trainees shall be medically fit for physical training.
Minimum number of participants is one (1) and maximum is sixteen (16).

Duration:

1 day

Certification:

A certificate of successful completion shall be issued to those participants who successfully complete the course and meet the assessment criteria. The certificate is valid for four years.
